To install an aboveground fuel storage tank a permit is required sometimes by local authorities which may include the local Fire Department and/or Building Department. Plans and specification must be submitted to the Fire Department prior to tank installation. The following information is required to be submitted:
- Size and Type of tank
- UL listing of the tank
- What the tank will be used for
- Location of the tank
- Containment being provided (single or double-walled tank)
- Pump and monitoring equipment being used
- Location of the fill/vent piping and containment being provided
